Observatory
Merely 6km from Cape Town CBD, this eclectic area got its name from the South African Astronomical Observatory where you can attend a talk and on a clear night, observe the night sky through the McClean telescope twice a month! Observatory is a kaleidoscope of historic museums (such as The Heart of Cape Town Museum), artsy shops, unusual boutiques, health food stores and a myriad of out-of-the-ordinary restaurants and night clubs. The locals’ favourite restaurants include Reverie Social Table where you can enjoy a 5-course meal with 18 other people who you’ve never met and 1890 House & Sushi Grill where you’ll find some of the best sushi in Cape Town! Other prominent eateries include Queen of Tarts, The Real Cheese and Café Ganesh. One of the best spots in Observatory will be City Rock, an indoor climbing gym with bouldering, top rope climbing, automatic belay walls and even a yoga studio.
